Giannas Gems Sexy Property Spotlight - Auberge du Soleil Napa
I said "I do" with my husband at Auberge du Soleil on 9/10/11…an auspiciously symmetrical date for what has turned out to be a marriage as enduring as the property itself. So when I went back this July to celebrate my birthday, I expected a nostalgic weekend where more than once, I caught myself saying out loud…how did I not experience this when I was here for the wedding?
That's the thing about Auberge du Soleil. It rewards you more the closer you look, wedding day or fifteen years later. And thoughtful details are everywhere. I smiled when I saw conversation cards near the pool (you all know how much I love them),the pink rafts to float on for even deeper relaxation, and a whole library of books in our hotel suite…it’s these little details, anticipating what guests may need or may not even know they’ll delight in, and then letting the splendor of the property and its surroundings unfold to deliver surprise, delight and awe…this is what makes Auberge du Soleil truly timeless.
The View That Started It All
Let's start with what everyone comes for: the view. It was the single biggest reason my husband and I chose this property for our wedding, and it's the same reason travelers from all over seek it out for a destination lunch or dinner while they're in Napa. The property sits atop a breathtaking canyon in Rutherford, and looking out you get a sweeping view of vineyards, hawks circling majestically overhead, and on still mornings, hot air balloons drifting in the distance. It is the kind of view that makes you stop mid-sentence, every single time and one we wanted to share with our friends. It didn’t disappoint then and I was still just as breathtaken by the stunning natural beauty on this visit.
The pool shares that same vista, and lounging beside it is a genuinely majestic experience…the closest I've come to feeling like I was floating atop a fairytale castle somewhere in Europe, if that castle happened to overlook Napa Valley instead of the Rhine. Lunch is served pool side on trays with proper linen and silver, and as you dine, you can hear the laughter and wine glasses clinking from world travelers who are enjoying duck fat fries, burgers and perfectly pan seared salmon from the restaurant on the balcony above. Heaven will have a hard time competing with this.
The Casitas: Every Room Its Own World
Every room here is its own private casita, with high beamed ceilings and a signature scent I can only describe as smoke, leather, and the herbal essence of the earth itself…the kind of detail that instantly transports you the moment you walk in and that I would buy for my own home if it was available. Each room comes well appointed with assorted beverages, books, and magazines, and a soaking tub with bath salts and candles.
The property has just 50 guest rooms and suites in total, spread across five accommodation types: Classic Rooms, Classic Suites, Deluxe Rooms, Deluxe Suites, and the Private Maisons. Every category is housed in its own maison, each named for a town in the south of France, which is exactly the design ethos here: Provence, transplanted onto a Napa hillside. The suites unfold into a separate living room behind French doors that open onto an oversized private terrace, while the two-bedroom Private Maisons take it a full step further with roughly 1,800 square feet of indoor-outdoor living and their own trellised terrace, complete with an outdoor sculptural soaking tub and rain shower framed by unobstructed valley views. It is, without question, one of the most romantic ways to spend a night in wine country.
The beds are, without exaggeration, like sleeping on a cloud. And after a day of sunbathing, there's no better way to transition into evening than lighting a candle beside the sunken tub before dinner.
Dining That Earns Its Michelin Star
The Restaurant at Auberge du Soleil is outstanding, both in the quality of the food and the caliber of the service…and the accolades back it up. Opened in 1981 by French restaurateur Claude Rouas as Napa Valley's very first fine-dining restaurant, it has now held a Michelin star for 18 consecutive years, alongside Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star and Michelin Three Key distinctions. Executive Chef Robert Curry, who has led the kitchen since 2005 after stints working under Alain Ducasse in Monaco and Philippe Jeanty in Yountville, sources ingredients from local purveyors at their peak of flavor for a menu that leans French-inspired California cuisine. On the Terrace, you can choose a two- or three-course prix fixe for lunch, or a three-, four-, or six-course tasting menu for dinner, each paired if you like from the hotel's roughly 15,000-bottle wine cellar, one of the most extensive in the valley. For something more casual, The Bar next door serves continuous dining from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., a favorite mid-valley stop for locals and visitors alike. I used to stop here for lunch while writing my wine blog, Decantress Wine Diary, and it was always a welcome destination in and of itself that often delighted my guests more than the wineries themselves.
Wellness, Done the Auberge Way
The property is true to form when it comes to wellness offerings: an indoor/outdoor gym overlooking the beauty of the valley, a pagoda in the middle of the sculpture garden for meditation and yoga, tennis courts set majestically amid a sculpture garden, and a full spa to round things out. Or, you can do a hike up and down the hill the property is on, like my husband and I did the day after our wedding, and work up an appetite for those duck fat fries.
The Property's Best-Kept Secret
If I had to pick the one feature that surprised me most on this visit, it would be the sculpture garden. It's filled with so many delightful works of art, but the real magic is in its hidden corners…spaces where intimate lunches or gatherings can be arranged. Picture a wisteria-covered clearing ringed with lavender, surrounded by forrest and vineyards…set for a private lunch. It's the kind of detail that makes you understand why people fall in love with this place long after the honeymoon ends. The grounds also boast three varieties of olive trees, imported from Spain and France alongside some native to California, woven throughout the property.
A Word on Weddings and Events
The venue space sits between the restaurant/bar and the pool. The largest of the event spaces, Bellevue I and II, combines into a nearly 1,900-square-foot reception and dining room with floor-to-ceiling bronze-framed doors that open onto a private terrace with the same panoramic valley views you get everywhere else on property, and it seats up to 120 for a dinner. Smaller spaces like La Rotonde, Maison d'Arbre, and the garden setting of Le Jardin round out the offering for more intimate gatherings, and Le Salon, tucked inside The Restaurant itself, offers a private fine-dining experience for up to 20 guests surrounded by the property's champagne and Cabernet cellars.
Because of noise considerations, Auberge no longer hosts weddings unless it's a full property buyout…a policy that says everything about how much they care about the guest experience, for the couple and for everyone else staying there.
If you are lucky enough to host your wedding here, take a page from my husband's and my playbook: saber the champagne off the terrace. It's a festive, unforgettable moment your guests will never forget…ours certainly still bring it up! And definitely invest in a world class photographer and videographer because you’ll want to remember these views and moments forever.
The Bottom Line
Auberge du Soleil isn't just a place to celebrate a milestone once. It's a place that keeps giving you new reasons to fall for it, whether you're standing on that terrace as a bride or coming back over a decade later for a birthday and finding it more magical than you remembered.
Would I recommend it for a wedding, an anniversary trip, or simply a destination dinner while you're in Napa? Without a single hesitation - it’s worth every penny as the most priceless hotel in Napa.

In Memory of Pat Gaudini
We checked out of Auberge du Soleil on the morning my beautiful mother-in-law, Pat Gaudini, passed away, after a fifteen-year battle with Alzheimer's. The sunrise was pink that morning, one of her favorite colors. I could feel her surrounding us with the same love we felt on our wedding day, as though she were reassuring us that she was finally at peace.
As you know, I try to be highly intentional about creating personalized moments. When I began thinking about how to remember her, and how to write a eulogy that felt like her, here is where I landed.
Her roses. Pat loved roses, and we were in Napa, just minutes from her home in Yountville. I cut as many as were still fresh from her garden, pressed them, and built a framed memory box for her partner — her roses alongside photographs and small pieces of her life. From what was left, I made little envelopes labeled Pat's Petals to bring to the funeral, so that every family member could carry something of hers home.
Lessons for Giacomo. To tell my son the news, and to eulogize her in a way that belonged only to the two of us, I wrote down the lessons I believe she would have wanted to give him. They're stitched together from things she actually said, with a few bits of her humor woven in, because she would have insisted on the levity.
She lived in a way I can only describe as universally beautiful, sunshine embodied. If you would like me to share her lessons with you, please message me directly. It would be an honor to pass along her wisdom and her light.
Gianna's Sexy Property Spotlight: Alila Napa Valley, St. Helena, California
There are Napa hotels, and then there is Alila Napa Valley - an escape, a retreat, an adults-only luxury that is Napa’s best kept luxury secret.
Tucked into the heart of St. Helena, arguably the most charming of Napa's small towns, where the Mayacamas Mountains fold into rows of vineyards and the historic downtown has the best shopping and art in all of Napa Valley. Cobblestone-chic storefronts with everything from home-goods to jewelry to fashion, wineries that have been pouring since the 1800s, high-end tasting rooms, bakeries people line up for and restaurants worth the trip alone… all a ten-minute stroll from the property. But you may not want to leave, and you don’t need to - they’ve thought of everything if you want to stay put and still get the full Napa experience.
Alila is adults-only and intentionally intimate with just 64 guest rooms, so it never feels like a crowded resort. It feels like your getaway. This makes it perfect for an intimate retreat, milestone birthday celebration, wedding, or a corporate buyout for smaller group programs. You can’t lose when it comes to the guest room selection - each either looks out onto the vineyard or onto the creek and the storied Beringer Winery next door (the two properties are connected by a private bridge), and every single room delights you with either an outdoor soaking tub or a fire pit and deck. You feel your shoulders drop the moment you walk in and your body thanks you after a blissful night sleep.
For those who want to stay put, Alila brings everything you need in a Napa experience or a retreat to you on property. My favorite offerings include the partnership with Beringer to do an in-suite tasting of library wines, the afternoon tea on the veranda - perfect for women’s spa weekend, blind tasting classes or complimentary daily wine tasting, even a custom scent making wellness experience.
The Spa: A Ritual, Not a Treatment
The Spa Alila is a destination in and of itself. Spa Alila doesn't just pamper you, it invites you to truly release what is weighing you down or holding you back - true transformation…and isn’t that why we really go to a spa? They have thought through the guest experience and offer ceremonious welcome and closing moments that instantly snap you out of your worries and into the present with intention.
On arrival, you’re welcome to select specific herbs to build your own "Burden Bundle," which is then steeped while you're getting your massage or facial, and then used at the end to soak your feet and shoulders; a literal, physical symbol of release and transformation. They also have little blessings you’re invited to select and take with you as a reminder of your visit (while indulging in hunks of dark chocolate that resemble brown glaciers and gourmet teas and nuts). I had a birthday facial there and walked out glowing, not spa-glowing, different-glowing and was grateful for the practitioner who was empathetic and helpful with recommendations but also let me meditate undisturbed during my treatment.
Violetto: Dinner With a Point of View
The resort's flagship restaurant, Violetto, blends the elegance of French culinary techniques with the warmth of Italian flavors. Situated inside a beautifully restored 1907 Georgian farmhouse it’s led by executive chef Mark Shoemaker, whose storied path here wound from his grandmother's kitchen through Michelin-starred restaurants in Chicago to a Washington farm where he deepened his connection to land and seasonality, a throughline you can taste in every course. The prix fixe menu features handmade pasta and signature fine dining dishes like braised Rabbit Violetti.
What makes it memorable is the hyper-local ingredient sourcing: everything is local and seasonal and you can taste the difference. Everything from honey to herbs used is pulled straight from the region. The moment you walk in, you feel serene in a room that is elegant yet down to earth in tones of lavender and organic touches. The second you sit down, you’re approached with a welcome cocktail of sweet vermouth and lavender honey that sets the tone completely. You’re welcome to select the four or eight course tasting menu, or dine a la carte in the less formal but striking bar or outdoor historic patio overlooking the estate. Every option is a delight and unique in its own right.
Customization: Not only does Alila offer many opportunities to customize your experience (i.e. pre-select what will show up in your mini bar or book an “explore your birth chart reading” but they go above and beyond to make sure your visit suits your needs. As it was my birthday, my husband called their restaurant in advance to request a gluten free dessert with chocolate for me (how thoughtful is that? He’s clearly been trained in the art of thoughtfulness). The chef presented a gluten free tiramisu with about 50 layers that was so delicious, I never would have imagined it was hypo-allergenic and took the time to connect with me persoally. They also accommodated my other dietary requests so that I could feel great and still enjoy the tasting menu - that is true hospitality and something I am grateful for.
The New Brunch: Salvia Terrace & Bar
If Violetto is the destination dinner, Salvia Terrace & Bar is the property's newest reason to linger over a lazy weekend morning in wine country. Chef Shoemaker now oversees the entire food and beverage program, and it shows here too: weekend brunch (Saturday and Sunday, 10:30am–2pm) leans into shareable plates, seasonal salads, and produce harvested straight from the on-site culinary garden and local farmers' markets. Think grilled vegetables and elevated avocado toast alongside craft cocktails and Napa Valley wines. You can take it indoors in the lounge, enjoy it at the bar, or out on the veranda with those iconic mountain-skyline views. It's easy, unhurried, and exactly the right register for a morning after a long dinner the night before with the hominess of a wine country B&B but the elevated cuisine of a Michelin star restaurant.
Rooms and Grounds
The rooms, designed by Yabu Pushelberg, are the kind of quiet-luxury you feel more than notice: oversized balconies or wraparound terraces, floor-to-ceiling glass, Italian linens, marble bathrooms, and those fire pits and soaking tubs that make you actually use your outdoor space instead of just admiring it through a window.
The pool is adults-only, too, and looks straight out over the vineyard. There is genuinely nothing like sipping a cocktail poolside and watching the grapes ripen in real time. It's one of those details that sounds small until you're enjoying it.
The Kind of Place You Bring People To
Beyond the rooms, Alila's social spaces, the outdoor bar, cornhole, scattered fire pits and pop up experience carts, give the property an easy, unfussy intimacy that makes it a genuinely great choice for hosting events of all types or meeting new friends. And the event infrastructure backs that up: at roughly 5,500 square feet, Alila has the largest event space in St. Helena, anchored by the Acacia Barn (a beautifully designed 2,200-square-foot venue built for weddings), the Acacia Lawn (2,640 square feet of open-air space with vineyard and Mayacamas mountain views as the backdrop), and the Violetto Private Dining Patio (an 820-square-foot al fresco spot right off the historic estate house, perfect for a golden-hour dinner).
For something smaller and more private, the Violetto Loft seats 10–16 for an intimate celebration or executive dinner, and the light-filled Boardroom handles more traditional corporate meetings. Altogether, the property can host up to 120 guests indoors and 200 outdoors, or you can go all in and buy out the entire 64-room resort for a true private-estate experience. Whether it's a corporate retreat, a wedding, or a milestone gathering, it's small enough to feel exclusive and just social enough to bring people together. I always recommend the Alila for a private corporate retreat, a wedding, a milestone gathering for a group that wants peace, real luxury, and something different from the usual Napa playbook.
The Real Differentiator: The Hospitality
Here's the final thing that actually sets Alila apart, more than any single amenity: the staff. Every person on property, from the online concierge team, to the valet to the servers, the room service staff and housekeeping team, to the spa therapists to the front desk… is genuinely engaged, not just going through the motions. Requests get met with a yes and a smile, not a "let me check." Cords get wrapped up with a note. Special occasions get noticed and celebrated and accommodations delivered above and beyond. It's the kind of hospitality that can't be manufactured through training alone; it comes from a team that actually loves where they work, and it's the thread that ties every other beautiful detail of this property together.
Rating: 10/10.
Overall Take: Alila Napa Valley isn't trying to be loud, it isn’t trying to be everything, but it is creating a sense of place and delivering personalized experiences that cater to all types and occasions. Quiet, sensual, deeply considered, and built for adults who actually want to slow down and experience something with history and heart, it may be the best kept secret in Napa. Between the spa’s Burden Bundle, the vineyard pool, and that soak in the tub overlooking St Helena’s prized vineyards, it's hard to imagine leaving anything but lighter than you arrived.
What I'm Obsessed with This Week: Summit Series Napa
Back in 2019, I attended Summit LA as a first-timer. I attended as pure "experience research" into what a best-in-class event brand actually looks like as I was building SoftBank Vision Fund’s first ever world class global event program. I've been to a lot of gatherings, including TED and Summit was up there as one of the very best experiences I’ve ever attended.
A few things that stuck with me:
The invite process was the product. Every attendee gets a personal phone call, not an email blast. They register you by phone, then reach out multiple times before the event to connect you with people you'll actually want to meet, and invite you into small curated dinners. That's a level of hospitality I hadn't seen anywhere else.
The content was genuinely diverse. Rap artists next to CPG execs next to tech founders. Not diversity for optics; diversity because it made the conversations better and often, my favorites were unexpected. The only complaint - it was hard to pick which sessions to attend because there were so any great ones.
The entertainment felt like Burning Man met a music festival. Interactive, immersive, major talent, creative/artistic, but woven into the experience rather than bolted on. The wellness and experiential partners pushed me outside my comfort zone from Theragun therapy sessions, a sound bath healing, things I never would've tried on my own. I genuinely took away real wellness learnings.
The serendipity was unreal. More coffee and kombucha meetups than any event I've been to (and the coffee game itself was incredible). I ended up at a private gathering in Tony Hsieh's trailer, and had sushi with a CEO I hadn't seen since my twenties and ended up joining her Board.
Today, I'm honored to now sit on the board supporting Summit's strategic partnerships. If you're curious about what it looks like to get involved, DM me and we can see about getting you or your company an invite to participate, especially at Summit Series Napa, which I’ll be attending myself in October, and hope to meet you there for a coffee (or wine) meet up.
Gianna's Gem: Sexy Property Spotlight Mauna Lani, Auberge Collection, Hawaii
I've spent a lot of time in Hawaii over the years…Few properties have captured my heart the way Mauna Lani, Auberge Collection has. This isn't just a resort…it's a completely immersive Hawaiian experience wrapped in a freshly renovated, strikingly beautiful package that somehow manages to feel both genuinely luxurious and deeply welcoming and authentic…it’s a property that takes luxury and quality a step further by constantly innovating while maintaining a sense of place and history that priceless. Whether you're planning a multi-generational family vacation, a corporate retreat, or a milestone celebration, Mauna Lani delivers on every level, and even surprises you with moments of delight you didn't even know to ask for.
And I'll be honest: the moment I arrived, my event planner brain lit up like the Big Island sky at sunset. I am already dreaming about bringing a group here… and I want you to be first in line.
Why This Property is a Standout: It Thought of Everything
Let me start with the design, because it sets the tone for everything that follows. The renovation at Mauna Lani is chef's kiss. The aesthetic is clean, airy, and unfussy elegance with an abundance of high quality natural textures, warm neutrals, and open-air architecture that lets the volcanic landscape and Pacific coast views shine. It doesn't try too hard. It doesn't need to.
Walking through this property, you immediately feel the care that went into making every corner feel intentional. This is the kind of design that photographs beautifully but more importantly, lives beautifully. You can exhale the moment you arrive. It’s luxury that families can enjoy without worry.
And the rooms and spaces themselves? Thoughtfully laid out making use of every square inch, modern without being cold, with a clean, edited sensibility that signals genuine quality. Nothing feels dated, nothing feels spliced together. It's the kind of renovation that makes you think: they actually talked to guests before they designed this.
The Full Hawaii Experience…Without Ever Leaving the Property
Here's what I find most remarkable about Mauna Lani: you could genuinely spend your entire trip on property (I did!) and leave feeling like you had an authentic, complete Hawaiian experience with new discoveries and surprises to be found each day. That's extremely rare. Most resorts ask you to choose between luxury and immersion. Mauna Lani refuses to make you choose.
The crown jewel? The ancient Hawaiian fishponds that sit at the heart of the resort. These are genuine, historically significant loko iʻa (fishponds) that have been part of this land for centuries. Watching the tropical fish glide through crystal-clear water with the open ocean as your backdrop is one of those moments that quietly takes your breath away. Every morning on my daily run I observed something unique - from jumping fish to eels, it never got old and offered an adventure just minutes away from where I woke up.
The Ancient Fishponds & Lava Tubes: Living History You Can Actually Touch
This is what separates Mauna Lani from every other luxury resort in Hawaii, and honestly, from most resorts anywhere in the world. Steps from the beach, the resort is home to the Kalāhuipuaʻa Historical Park, a 27-acre sacred preserve encompassing seven ancient Hawaiian fishponds, collapsed lava tubes, and petroglyphs that date back as far as 250 A.D. This is not a display. This is the real thing, and it is breathtaking.
The seven fishponds span over 15 combined acres and reaching depths of nearly 20 feet, once the prized property of Kamehameha the Great himself. The ponds are fed by a remarkable combination of natural freshwater springs and ocean tidal action, creating a brackish environment that ancient Hawaiians engineered with astonishing ingenuity. Walking alongside them, watching mullet leap and shimmer in the emerald water beneath swaying palms, you feel the weight of centuries in the best possible way.
The lava tubes woven throughout the park add another layer of wonder entirely. These ancient underground tunnels were formed when the outer surface of a lava flow cooled and hardened while molten rock continued flowing beneath, eventually draining away and leaving hollow pipelines behind. Ancient Hawaiians discovered that these tubes made extraordinary shelters: cooler, drier, and more protected from the wind and rain than any surface structure.
And then there's the insider secret that my contact at the resort tipped me off to, and which became one of the unexpected highlights of the trip for my son and me: the "fish pedicure" pool. Tucked along the trail, there is a spring-fed pool where tiny fish have become so accustomed to visitors that they will happily nibble the dead skin from the soles of your feet. My son and I dangled our feet in and dissolved into laughter… it is the most delightful, ticklish, completely bizarre and wonderful sensation, and watching a kid experience it for the first time is pure joy. It's the kind of tip that doesn't make it into any brochure, which is exactly what makes it special.
Beyond the priceless fishponds, the water activities program and beach are exceptional. Snorkeling right off the property gives you direct access to the extraordinary marine life that makes the Big Island coast so special. Paddleboarding on calm waters with lava fields and mountains in the background is a postcard that can't be staged. A highlight for us was the sunrise canoe which featured traditional Hawaiian outriggers and guides setting sail with a small group right as the morning sun rises over the glassy water.
I’m not exaggerating when I say the canoe ride was magnificent and even spiritual. Paddling out on the open water in the golden early morning light, Hawaiian guides sounding the conch, invited us to meditate as we paddled in a kind of reverence to the land and water, with the Big Island coastline still, quiet, and glowing around us, was one of those profound, rare moments where you think: this is exactly what travel is for. The kind of experience that a kid talks about for years (my son will). The fact that Mauna Lani offers it as a "surprise and delight" experience says everything about how this property thinks about its guests while highlighting the local culture.
Built for Families, In The Right Way
I say "the right way" because families know there's a meaningful difference between a resort that tolerates kids, caters to kids and one that was actually designed with kids AND their parents in mind. Mauna Lani is firmly in the latter category, and it shows.
Every day brings structured, genuinely fun activities and experiences for kids that connect them to Hawaiian culture in memorable ways. Coconut shucking? Absolutely. Kids go home with a skill and a story. S'mores making at sunset while star gazing with a local Hawaiian guide? The kind of memory that lasts longer than any souvenir. These aren't afterthoughts; they're curated programming that makes children feel seen and included, educate about the place and culture, and are engaging for kids and parents alike…which, as any parent knows, is what makes a family trip actually feel like a vacation for everyone.
The Brand New Francis Brown Club: A Giant Living Room in the Sky
Here's something I can say I genuinely stumbled into, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip: we arrived on March 28th, the exact day the brand new Francis Brown Club opened its doors. Talk about timing.
The concept is brilliant, and I'm surprised more luxury resorts haven't cracked this code. Mauna Lani took a prime space on the Lobby Level, one that previously housed private events and meetings but was chronically underutilized, and transformed it into an elevated Club experience for guests who want to opt into a next-level stay. For a per-trip fee, Club access unlocks a genuinely impressive suite of perks: a complimentary and amazing morning buffet, evening happy hour, all-day snacks (including an ice cream station, raw bar, healthy bites, and — yes — a candy bar), a complimentary tennis/golf lesson, reserved beach seating, and use of a house Mercedes. It's the kind of upgrade that actually upgrades your trip, not just your room category.
But what made it land for our family wasn't any single amenity, it was the feeling of the space. The Club overlooks the beach and resort, and it's been designed to feel like like a hotel lounge and more like an extraordinarily beautiful giant living room. We were welcomed there for check-in rather than waiting at the front desk, greeted with champagne and the most incredible freshly baked chocolate chip cookies (the whole place smelled like someone's dream kitchen) and given a personal tour before we'd even seen our room. It set the tone for the entire stay.
The game room and terrace became our family's unofficial home base. My son and I played poker out on the terrace with a glass of their exceptional wine in hand, looking out over the resort… and I thought: this is the kind of moment that doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone designed a space intentionally to encourage guests to slow down, connect, and actually talk to each other. The Club functions as a social hub in the best possible way, sparking the kind of easy, warm conversations between guests that you'd normally only get at a great dinner party. Smart hospitality, beautifully executed, and on opening day, no less.
Two Exceptional Restaurants That Were 10/10
Mauna Lani's dining scene is genuinely excellent, not "good for a hotel" excellent, but excellent excellent to the point that we booked one of them for two nights just to be able to taste everything on the menu.
This is the resort's iconic oceanfront restaurant, and one of the most storied dining destinations in all of Hawaii. Perched on a private half-acre lawn at the ocean's edge, CanoeHouse celebrates Hawaii's connection to land and sea with Japanese-inspired fusion cuisine helmed by a truly exceptional culinary team. The sunset views are legendary, the seasonal menu is thoughtful and locally sourced, with delightfully executed dishes that are part theater, packed with flavor… and the fire pits on the lawn for sunset cocktails are the perfect touch. This is one of those restaurants you talk about long after you leave and could genuinely eat at every night. Fun Fact: Executive Chef, Rhoda Magbitang, is currently featured on this season of Top Chef!
Overlooking the resort pool, HāLani brings a coastal Mediterranean sensibility to the heart of the Big Island and it works beautifully for families who want to be able to let their kids run around on the lawn while enjoying approachable but high quality dining. It's the kind of restaurant that's perfect for a family dinner or a long, leisurely evening with friends: warm, lively, with shareable From the wood fired pizza and pitas to the charcoal grilled fish, veggies, and meats, the dishes are fresh, seasonal, and craveable with unparalleled service to boot.
And then there's the Surf Shack, a casual, toes-in-the-sand counterpart that completes the picture. Located at the Mauna Lani Beach Club right on the water, this is where you land after a morning of snorkeling or a surf lesson or for happy hour with friends: sun-kissed, hungry, and not remotely interested in changing out of your swimsuit. Fish tacos, fresh beachside bites, cold drinks, live music as the afternoon winds down…it's exactly what a beach shack should be, done with the quality and care that defines everything else on this property. Don't make the mistake of dismissing it as just a grab-and-go. It's a genuinely fun, delicious spot that the whole family will want to return to every single day.
Event Spaces That Just Work
As an event planner, I can't walk a property without mentally staging it…the Mauna Lani was made for events, and the variety and quality of spaces available is genuinely exceptional.
The outdoor venues alone could anchor an entire event program. Kilohana Beach offers a toes-in-the-sand beachfront setting right alongside CanoeHouse; there is no more dramatic backdrop in Hawaii for a dinner, reception, or ceremony. The Hoku Lawn and Papakōnane Sunset Lawn deliver sweeping oceanfront settings ideal for cocktail receptions and seated dinners under the stars, while the Milo Tree Lawn brings an intimate, almost spiritual quality perfect for ceremonies and smaller gatherings. For larger productions, the Hale Hoaloha Pavilion is a fully air-conditioned, dynamic indoor space that can handle anything from black tie galas to large-scale corporate presentations, and crucially, it serves as a beautiful weather backup so your event never gets held hostage by the elements.
Wellness Done Right: Spa, Fitness Center, and Courts
The Auberge Spa is a sanctuary - beautifully appointed, with a service menu rooted in authentic Hawaiian healing traditions and locally sourced botanicals. Signature treatments like the Lomi Lomi massage and exclusive goop Glow Facial bring real intention to every session.
And if the spa boutique tempts you (it will), Mauna Lani is home to Hawaii's only Goop store, Gwyneth Paltrow's beloved clean beauty and wellness brand, curated right on property. Whether you're stocking up on skincare, picking up a gift, or just browsing beautiful things after your treatment, it's the perfect cherry on top of an already exceptional spa experience.
The Fitness Center is high-quality ad seriously well-equipped with Peloton bikes, rowing machines, HIIT Mills, and an open-air terrace where you can train with the sea breeze naturally reviving you. And, the resort also has a separate Mauna Lani Sports Club facility right next to the tennis courts, just minutes away, meaning you never fight for equipment. Pick your adventure, or enjoy the running paths along the fish ponds and through the lava tubes (my personal favorite way to start the day).
Tennis courts (and pickleball!) round out an offering that covers every guest who wants to stay active. Whether you're a dedicated athlete or someone who likes the option to move their body, the infrastructure here has you genuinely covered.
The Bottom Line
Mauna Lani perfection is what happens when a world-class resort operator takes a spectacular piece of land, renovates it with genuine taste, honors the land/traditions, and then programs it with the intelligence and generosity of a team that genuinely loves Hawaii and wants guests to fall deeply in love with it too. The luxury here is real but never precious. The activities are plentiful but never chaotic. The vibe is elevated but never exclusive in a way that makes anyone feel unwelcome.
Would I return? Already planning it. Maybe annually.
Would I recommend it for your next family trip, corporate program, or milestone event? Without a single hesitation.

Gianna's Sexy Property Spotlight: Nobu Hotel & Eden Roc Miami Beach
Picture this…
You're lounging poolside at the exclusive adults-only Nobu Pool, cocktail in hand, as Miami's sherbet-hued sunset paints the Atlantic horizon in shades of pink and amber. The ocean breeze carries the scent of Japanese umami flavors from the renowned Nobu Restaurant, where Chef Nobu Matsuhisa's legendary black cod with miso awaits your dinner reservation. You have a glass of Chandon in hand from the champagne cart that’s conveniently located right as you enter the pool off the beach.
This isn't just a hotel stay—it's an immersive international lifestyle experience where Old Hollywood glamour meets contemporary Zen Japanese minimalism in the heart of Miami Beach's chic Mid-Beach district, neighboring hot spots like The Edition, Faena, Andaz, Fountainbleu and The 1 Miami hotels.
Welcome to Nobu Hotel Miami Beach and Eden Roc Miami Beach—two iconic properties seamlessly woven together to create one of Miami's most unique and sophisticated beachfront destinations. Named #1 Best Resort in Greater Miami Beach by Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards 2022 and recognized by Condé Nast Traveler, this isn't your average beach resort. It's where cultural cachet meets coastal cool and the best part? Few know about it - which is why I’m giving you the inside scoop Gems!
Why It’s a Miami South Beach Icon
Designed in 1955 by legendary architect Morris Lapidus—the visionary behind Miami's iconic MiMo (Miami Modern) architectural style—Eden Roc has hosted everyone from Frank Sinatra to Elizabeth Taylor in its storied halls. The hotel's baroque fountain, grand front entrance, and the iconic "EDEN ROC" sign atop the building remain as lasting fixtures on the Miami Beach skyline. Famous for his catchphrase "too much is never enough," Lapidus created a space where Italian Renaissance elegance meets beachfront exuberance.
In 2016, this legendary property welcomed Nobu Hotel Miami Beach—a collaboration between Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Oscar winner Robert De Niro, and Hollywood producer Meir Teper. Renowned designer David Rockwell masterfully blended Lapidus's iconic architecture with Japanese minimalist aesthetics, creating 206 exquisite guest rooms featuring live-edge wood furniture, washi paper art, cherry blossom décor, and traditional lanterns. The result? A contemporary Japanese beach house that honors both its heritage and its innovation.

The Accommodations
I arrived after a severely delayed flight in need of a good night sleep and was grateful as I was handed an evian water at arrival and entered my tranquil, Japandi-inspired hotel room where I could see twinkling lights of Miami’s lagoon and waterfront as I settled in. A beautiful platter of fruit, sculpted and styled, and delicious cheese awaited me with a handwritten note (parts of it inscribed in Japanese) to welcome me. The lanterns dimmed to create the light hue I needed as I wound down and I slept like a baby in the pillow soft bed. My Oura ring sleep score was the highest it’s been since before December!
Every Nobu guest room is truly a sanctuary of serenity, featuring: Custom Nobu mattresses and Fili d'Oro luxury linens for cloud-like comfort, Natura Bissé bath amenities and waterfall showers, Welcome tea service and 24-hour Nobu in-room dining, Floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping ocean, Intracoastal, or Miami skyline views and Yoga mats in suites for sunrise stretches with ocean vistas. They also offer the chicest of chic neoprene Nobu black beach bags (with convenient zippered pouches inside) for purchase if you’d like to keep one for just $45. This was sophisticated and offered pain-oint elimination for the oft-forgotten beach bag - and was the best souvenir I’ve purchased at a hotel recently by far.
Want ultra-luxe? The Signature Zen Suites feature wrap-around balconies, panoramic Atlantic views, oversized soaking tubs, and butler service—the ultimate in beachfront luxury.
The Culinary Journey - Nobu Miami
The crown jewel of the property centers around the world-famous nobu restaurant where I dined with my family on New Years Eve with zero disappointment aside from the 35 degree weather that evening (thank goodness for Nobu’s wide variety of tea!)
Chef Nobu Matsuhisa's genre-defining Japanese-Peruvian fusion has captivated international tastemakers for 16 years in Miami Beach. Adorned with gold cherry blossom décor, washi paper art, and traditional lanterns, the restaurant offers an immersive dining experience. Want exceptional? You can reserve the exclusive 10-seat Teppanyaki Room or the rare private Chef's Table—one of the only ones in the world. My favorite dishes were the miso cod, the crispy brussels, and the miso teriyaki young chicken. My son loved the sushi so much, he ordered a second roll in lieu of dessert!
Ocean Social: Chef Tristen Epps creates soulful coastal cuisine in an unparalleled oceanfront setting where you can enjoy the Miami sunsets as you savor drinks and delicious unpretentious but delicious food that’s approachable for families as well. The seafood-forward menu celebrates the freshest locally-sourced ingredients infused with Miami's vibrant Caribbean and global influences. Perched where sea meets sky, it's the perfect spot for sunset cocktails.
.
Lobby Bar - Set in Lapidus's iconic 16-seat lounge and reimagined by David Rockwell, the Lobby Bar features bronze window shades, theatrical backdrops, and elegant stone counters. People enjoy handcrafted cocktails and snacks from Nobu restaurant in a sexy, glamorous environment.

Gianna's Gem Sexy Property Spotlight: Sardinia Beckons at Forte Village Resort
Mediterranean Elegance Meets Self-Contained Paradise
I've been fortunate to celebrate milestone events and experiences at some of the world's most exceptional properties…Forte Village Resort in Southern Sardinia didn't just meet my high expectations for my husband Garrett's 50th birthday—it surpassed them in ways I didn't anticipate. This isn't just another luxury resort; it's a 116-acre self-contained Mediterranean island paradise where Italian sophistication, world-class wellness, dining and entertainment, and genuine hospitality create something truly extraordinary.
But first…a story: I learned in social psychology at UCSD that one should "never let a good crisis go to waste”. In fact, it’s been proven that when you can solve a customer’s issue (even if it’s your own fault), the customer will feel more favorably about your brand. That’s exactly what happened with my first experience at Forte Village. Imagine the stress when my husband and I arrived in Sardinia for his 50th where we were hosting other international couples, with NO LUGGAGE. That’s right - our checked bags didn’t make it to the island and we were unclear when we’d receive them. Not to mention, the drama delayed our arrival to the resort to 10pm so we were exhausted and concerned about how we’d manage the next day.
The GM of the resort, Marco, went above and beyond. He got on the phone and had the hotel’s shops opened for us (at 11 pm!) so we could buy workout clothes, swimsuits and toothbrushes, and had room service dinner delivered and waiting at our hotel room when we arrived. It was such a thoughtful gesture that it moved me to tears. That kind of kindness and above and beyond welcome when we were stressed and tired turned a nightmare into an experience that comforted me that all would be ok (and it was!)
Why Forte Village Is Unlike Anything Else
Let's address what makes this property genuinely unique apart from the exceptional customer service and hospitality: Forte Village offers eight hotels in different styles and at different price points, all on one sprawling property, giving you flexibility without sacrificing access to the resort's incredible amenities. Whether you choose the adults-only retreat at Villa del Parco & Spa, the beachfront elegance of Le Dune, or the family-friendly Bouganville, every guest can access the resort's 21 restaurants (up to 23 in peak season), numerous pools, pristine beach, and world-renowned Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa.
This is the beauty of Forte Village: you get all the benefits of exploring Sardinia's stunning coastline and rich culture, but in a beautifully self-contained environment where everything you need is at your fingertips. No car required. No worrying about dinner reservations across town. Just pure, uninterrupted indulgence which was perfect for hosting a group holiday…less time coordinating, less room for hiccups with transportation, and more time to bond and relax in the sun together.
The Hotels: Something for Everyone
Eight Hotels, One Seamless Experience
The genius of Forte Village's multi-hotel concept is that it allows different guests to curate their ideal experience while sharing access to exceptional facilities. Traveling with multi-generational family? Book the kids at Bouganville with its proximity to Leisureland and the waterpark, while grandparents enjoy the tranquility of Villa del Parco. Planning a corporate retreat with varying budgets? Mix and match hotels while everyone accesses the same caliber of dining and activities.
The adults-only Villa del Parco & Spa, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, sits adjacent to the spectacular spa complex—perfect for couples or executives seeking serenity. Meanwhile, families gravitate toward the welcoming energy of Le Palme and Castello, where kids' facilities are just steps away. My husband and I loved Castello which had a patio overlooking the cerulean water, had a private adult-only pool just steps away from the water, and its own restaurant.
Planning a Milestone: My Husband's 50th Birthday
When it came time to celebrate Garrett's 50th, I wanted something that combined intimacy, spectacular setting, and flawless execution. I researched hosting his main dinner off property, and there was no other venue that came close to the beauty of Forte Village’s oceanfront views, so I was thrilled that they offered two Michelin-star pop-up oceanfront restaurants where I could customize everything from the menu to the decor and even a custom 5-0 Italian cheesecake. I paired it with a professional photographer to get group and couples shots (who doesn’t want their family photo taken in this paradise?!) and a Jeffersonian Dinner format, and guests were literally moved to tears as we celebrated with a Red Italian moon (it’s unreal) and then dancing in the moonlight at a pop up disco overlooking the water. EPIC.
Working with the culinary team, we created a custom menu that told the story of Garrett's favorite flavors—from local Sardinian seafood to Italian classics reimagined with modern molecular gastronomy techniques. The setting was pure magic: a private table at the water's edge, the Mediterranean as our backdrop, the sound of waves providing the soundtrack to our evening.
But it was the details that elevated it from special to spectacular. The culinary team didn't just execute a menu; they created theater. Each course arrived with the chef's personal explanation of its inspiration, the sourcing of ingredients, and the technique behind it. The wine pairings showcased perfect Sardinian vintages I'd never encountered (and as a certified Court of Master Sommelier, that's saying something). The staff's attention to our preferences—and attention to every detail, and the whole restaurant our own…it was priceless.
Pro tip for event planners: This bespoke dining experience isn't just for personal celebrations. Forte Village's ability to create intimate, high-touch culinary moments makes it ideal for executive dinners, board retreats, or client cultivation events where you need to impress without trying too hard. It’s why dignitaries from around the world visit the property on a regular basis.
Culinary Excellence: 21 Restaurants, Endless Possibilities
With 21 restaurants on property (expanding to 23 during peak summer months), Forte Village has solved the age-old resort problem: dinner fatigue. You could spend three weeks here and never repeat a restaurant (although the Italian lunch was so amazing I went back to one restaurant three times).
The diversity is staggering: Start your morning with the breakfast buffet at Le Dune, grab lunch at the Fish Market with its impossibly fresh daily catch, experience Michelin-starred cuisine at Beachcomber by Heinz Beck, savor traditional Sardinian specialties at Bellavista and Belvedere, enjoy high protein Brazilian churrasco at the Ristorante Brasiliano (like a pro soccer team I spotted did), or indulge in Asian fusion flavors at one of their international concepts.
What impressed me most? Even the "casual" dining here is exceptional. The pizza at the resort's pizzeria rivals what you'd find in Naples. The poolside lunch options feature locally sourced ingredients prepared with care—this isn't your typical chlorine-scented burger situation. Even the gelato is insane. There’s a wine bar open in the center of the property that’s perfect for pre-dinner aperitifs and a gelato cart near the ocean for afternoon delights.
For event planners: The sheer variety means you can host multi-day programs without attendees experiencing restaurant fatigue, and dietary restrictions are handled with Italian grace rather than reluctance. Each restaurant features a different vibe and decor and the food and service at each was 10/10!
The Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa: A World-Class Wellness Sanctuary
Let's talk about what might be Forte Village's crown jewel: the Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa. This isn't your standard hotel spa with a few treatment rooms and a sauna. This is a medical-grade wellness destination that has revolutionized thalassotherapy.
The Revolutionary Six-Pool Thalassotherapy Circuit
The spa's signature experience is its six-pool thalassotherapy circuit, featuring pure Sardinian seawater drawn from 100 meters offshore at a depth of 10 meters. I only wish I had experienced it before my last day there so I could have planned a group experience.
Here's what makes it extraordinary:
The first three pools operate at high temperatures with elevated saline concentrations—particularly rich in magnesium and sodium. The magnesium pool is so dense you literally float, creating a zero-gravity massage effect while the minerals work their anti-inflammatory magic on your muscles. The heat creates vasodilation, and combined with the high saline density, it increases metabolic exchanges through osmosis, providing powerful detoxification and drainage. You walk out of that pool feeling like your skin is smooth as silk and your muscles feel like butter!
The final three pools feature lower temperatures and reduced saline concentrations, completing the regenerative program by stabilizing mineral salt exchanges in your body. The cold plunge effect provides vasoconstriction, toning your entire body and leaving you feeling energized and renewed.
The entire circuit, developed 25 years ago by Dr. Angelo Cerina and his medical team, is unlike anything else in the world. It's not just relaxing—it's clinically effective for everything from muscle recovery to skin rejuvenation.
Beyond the Pools: A Complete Wellness Ecosystem
The 30 treatment rooms offer everything from traditional massages to cutting-edge aesthetic medicine treatments. The Ayurvedic Park, tucked in the most secluded corner of the gardens, provides yoga, Pilates, and authentic Ayurvedic massages using aromatic Indian oils and traditional techniques.
The new Arctic Sauna—an open-air, seafront sauna—provides a stunning wellness experience with ocean views. There's also a Turkish hammam, steam rooms, sensory showers, and a private spa area that can be reserved exclusively for families or small groups with its own four thalasso pools, sauna, hammam, and treatment spaces.
The Forte Lab: Where Wellness Meets Science
What sets Acquaforte apart from every other luxury spa? The Forte Lab—a state-of-the-art diagnostic center led by Dr. Cerina and Dr. Joanna Hakimova. Before recommending treatments, they conduct comprehensive health assessments, creating fully personalized programs based on your actual needs rather than generic spa menus.
This medical approach means athletes (and professional sports teams regularly train here) can work with physiotherapists, osteopaths, and chiropractors on performance optimization and injury recovery. Regular guests benefit from customized nutrition plans, targeted treatments, and fitness programs designed around their health data.
The Gym & Performance Center: Pro-Level Fitness
Speaking of athletes: the Performance Center is why so many professional sports teams choose Forte Village for training camps. This isn't a hotel gym with a few treadmills and dusty dumbbells. It's a two-story, 310-square-meter facility with cutting-edge equipment, personal training programs, and integration with the spa's thalassotherapy treatments for optimal recovery.
The Sports Academy programs are legendary—offering professional-level coaching in soccer, tennis, rugby, cycling, boxing, fencing, climbing, go-karting, and more. Parents, imagine your kids training with pro soccer coaches while you're getting a thalasso massage. That's the Forte Village magic.
The Pools: Multiple Options for Every Mood
Beyond the spa's therapeutic pools, Forte Village features numerous swimming pools scattered throughout the property—each with its own personality and purpose.
Whether you want an infinity pool overlooking the Mediterranean, a family pool with activities for kids, a quiet adult pool for uninterrupted reading, or the excitement of the Aquapark with its slides and water features, you'll find your perfect spot. The poolside service is impeccable, with spa water infused with citrus, plush loungers, and lunch service that's genuinely delicious.
The Beach: Private Paradise
The resort's pristine white sand beach stretches along the property with dedicated sections for different hotels. Sun loungers and parasols are included with your stay, and the beach staff provides the same attentive service you'll find poolside. The water is that impossible Mediterranean blue that looks Photoshopped until you're standing in it.
The beachfront walking and jogging path became part of my daily ritual—there's something restorative about starting your day with ocean views and the sound of waves, knowing that an exceptional breakfast and a day of possibilities await you back at the resort. And you could walk endlessly - in fact, I never made it to the end of the beach…which made exploring an adventure each day. We even made it to a few different off-property beach restaurants that were just a walk away from our resort. No car needed!
For Families: A Paradise for All Ages
While Garrett and I experienced Forte Village as a couples' retreat, I was struck by how brilliantly they've designed the property for families without compromising the adult experience.
Children's Wonderland is a miniature paradise with a Barbie House, Mario's Village, a vegetable garden, children's theater, science academy with hands-on experiments, and two monitored pools. The cinema and creative filmmaking adventures keep kids engaged and learning.
Leisureland caters to teenagers with bowling, go-karts, and evening discos—giving parents peace of mind that teens are entertained in a safe, supervised environment.
The Aquapark features multiple slides and water features that keep kids (and let's be honest, adults) entertained for hours.
Sports Academy programs allow children to train like pros in soccer, tennis, and other sports—creating memories and skills they'll carry for life. The soccer camp, in particular, is world-renowned, with professional coaching that would cost thousands at dedicated sports facilities.
Evening entertainment in Piazza Luisa brings families together with circus shows, musical performances, and family-friendly entertainment that's sophisticated enough for adults to enjoy.
The genius? All these family amenities are strategically located so that parents choosing the adults-only Villa del Parco never feel like they're at a kids' resort, while families at Bouganville have everything at their fingertips.
Location & Setting: The Best of Sardinia, Self-Contained
Forte Village is located in Santa Margherita di Pula on Sardinia's southern coast, about 48 kilometers from Cagliari Airport. The location offers the perfect balance: you're close enough to explore Sardinia's treasures—including the ancient Roman ruins at Nora just eight miles away—but you're never obligated to leave the resort's 116 acres of subtropical gardens and Mediterranean beachfront.
This is what I mean by "self-contained paradise": you have access to authentic Sardinian culture, cuisine, and natural beauty without the logistical headaches of navigating a foreign country, finding restaurants, or coordinating transportation for your group. Everything you need is here, executed at the highest level.
For corporate groups, this eliminates the risk of attendees getting lost, late, or distracted by outside options. For families, it means you can truly relax without planning every moment. For couples, it creates a cocooned romance where the rest of the world fades away.
Service: Italian Hospitality at Its Finest
Here's what separates good properties from great ones: service that feels genuine rather than scripted. Forte Village's staff embodies Italian hospitality—warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in your experience.
They remember your name. They anticipate your preferences without you asking. When you return to your room after dinner, you'll find it's been turned down with care—fresh towels arranged, lights dimmed perfectly, perhaps a small treat on your pillow that actually makes you smile rather than roll your eyes.
The concierge team can arrange anything from private boat excursions to in-villa chef services to surprise celebrations. Nothing is too much trouble, and everything is handled with efficiency and grace.
For Event Planners: Why Forte Village of with Checking out
As someone who's planned events for Google, AWS, SoftBank Vision Fund, and other F500 companies, I'm always assessing properties through the lens of: "Could I host a successful corporate event here?"
Forte Village is exceptional for:
Executive Retreats & Board Meetings: The combination of privacy, luxury, and comprehensive amenities means executives can focus without distraction. The adults-only hotel options provide quiet spaces for strategic thinking, while the variety of restaurants allows for different meeting formats—from formal dining to casual beachside strategy sessions.
Incentive Travel: The range of hotels at different price points allows you to reward different performance tiers while keeping everyone on property. The activities and sports facilities create team building opportunities, and the spa provides the relaxation that makes incentive travel memorable.
Family-Friendly Corporate Events: This is rare—a property sophisticated enough for C-suite dinners that also accommodates families. Your executives can bring spouses and kids without worry, knowing everyone will be well cared for.
Multi-Day Conferences for International Groups: With 21+ restaurants, multiple pool options, extensive activities, and world-class spa facilities, you can keep attendees engaged and energized throughout a multi-day program. No one leaves early because they're bored. They were hosting an International Film Festival (we spotted White Lotus actors) while we were there.
Wellness-Focused Programs: If your company culture emphasizes wellness, Forte Village's medical-grade spa and fitness facilities allow you to walk the talk with substance rather than token yoga sessions.
Seasonal Considerations
The resort is now open 10 months a year (a significant expansion from the original 5-month season), with the spa's thalassotherapy pools covered from October through May to maintain warmth and comfort year-round.
Peak season (July-August) offers the full 23 restaurants and maximum entertainment options, but shoulder seasons provide a more intimate experience with milder weather and fewer families—ideal for couples or corporate groups.
Communication - my only concern through the year-long planning process was the delayed response time in planning Garrett’s birthday, but that was due to it being off-season and some of the pop-up restaurants details coming closer to summer. Knowing the Italian timeline and seasonality now, I don’t think I would worry as much in the future, especially having seen the flawless execution.
The Bottom Line
Forte Village Resort delivers something increasingly rare in luxury hospitality: a completely self-contained experience where every element—from dining to wellness to activities to service—operates at the highest level. You're not making trade-offs or compromises. You're not wishing the spa was better or the food was more diverse or the beach was prettier. Everything is exceptional.
For Garrett's 50th birthday, I wanted a property that could create a once-in-a-lifetime celebration without too much time wasted in transit and options for every preference. Forte Village not only met that brief—they exceeded it in ways that made me, a professional event planner with impossibly high standards, feel truly taken care of.
The property has earned its reputation as one of the world's leading resorts and its collection of World Travel Awards. It's been awarded the "Family First" award by Condé Nast Traveller, and multiple hotels within the resort are members of The Leading Hotels of the World. These aren't marketing claims—they're recognition of genuine excellence.
Would I return? I'm already planning our next visit, this time with my son Giacomo who’s dying to train with the pro soccer team!
Would I recommend it for your next event or personal getaway? Without hesitation. Whether you're planning an executive retreat, an incentive program, a milestone celebration, a family holiday, or a wellness-focused escape, Forte Village has the sophistication, facilities, and service to make it extraordinary. Just make sure to carry on (not check) your bags!

Gianna's Sexy Property Spotlight: Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort
Chic, Thoughtful Design Meets Hawaiian Paradise
I've stayed at countless Hawaiian hotels in my life (it was a favorite family vacation spot growing up and also a favorite incentive trip for companies I’ve worked for), and the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort isn't just another beachfront property—it sets a gold standard in how a modern resort should think about the entire guest experience and is a 10/10 for the overall experience and value. Whether you're planning a corporate event, milestone birthday or wedding, or personal escape, this renovated gem delivers on every level and for relatively reasonable cost.
Why This Property is a Standout: The Details Matter
Let's talk about the things that make or break a hotel stay. You know what's annoying? Arriving before your room is ready with nowhere to go. The Andaz Maui gets it. Their arrival Lounge features showers, a microwave, cold beverages, and a comfortable “living room” like lounge to decompress—because your vacation (or work trip) shouldn't start with sitting awkwardly in the lobby for three hours.
And can we discuss the room amenities? Every guest receives a beach bag and two reusable water bottles. Forgot yours at home? No problem. They've thought of it. The rooms themselves are intelligently designed to maximize every square foot—think carved-out storage under the bed for shoes, extra wall-rack right by the door for hanging towels and wet swimsuits and complimentary Hawaiian snacks and beverages you need stocked and replenished throughout your stay… the water stations and ice on every other floor and “spa water” infused with citrus at every pool…It's this kind of smart space planning and thoughtfulness about what guests want and need that makes you wonder why other hotels haven't figured this out yet.
But here's where they really won me over: premium Nespresso pods (not generic coffee) and DryBar hairdryers in every room. As someone who has suffered through countless bad hotel coffees and hairdryers that turn my hair into a frizz disaster, these were welcome surprises I don't even find at supposedly "luxury" properties. The little things? They're actually the big things. Case in Point: I’ll never forget this past year I was planning a Milestone Birthday for a dear client at a luxury hotel in Napa, and she showed up to the final evening event (where I had scheduled a photographer to take professional photos of the couple and their guests), with WET HAIR! When she told me it was because the hotel’s hairdryer was so bad it wouldn’t dry her hair, I was appalled. So hotels - don’t do this to your guests! They deserve better.
Sophisticated, Smart, Timeless Design
The Andaz Maui has done an A+ job on maintaining classic Hawaiian traditions and aesthetics and upgrading them to be fresh, modern, chic and versatile. The aesthetic is clean, natural, and unmistakably Hawaiian—but in a sophisticated fashion that uses clean neutrals, wood, fres, neutral-toned carpet (with a delicate, light pattern) with pops of color introduced only via art and Hawaiian orchids. The traditional “welcome moment” as you arrive and approach the breathtaking Lobby still boasts a welcome with Hawaiian Lei and specialty fruit juice, and sweeping open-aired views of the ocean, with a fun upgrade which is a sand-feature that groups can use to “draw” a welcome message to guests. Clever, subtle, and understated natural without needing print signage to obstruct the view - so smart! Everything about this property feels intentional, from the materials to the layout. It's the kind of design that makes you feel relaxed the moment you walk in.
The Rooms: Where Smart Design Meets Comfort
Every room at the Andaz Maui is thoughtfully designed to maximize space and comfort. In the room I stayed in, the dual tub/shower combo and under-bed shoe storage were brilliant touches that make life easier. The large soaking tubs in every bathroom in the villa I toured are perfect for unwinding after a day of meetings or beach time—there's nothing quite like a good soak while looking out at Hawaiian views.
The Suites: Next-Level Luxury
But if you really want to experience something special, the villas are where it's at. Let me tell you about what made me fall in love with them:
The Stunning Glass-Bottom Dipping Pool
The Ilikai Penthouse Villa I toured feature an outdoor dipping pool with a see-through bottom—yes, you read that right. It's the kind of feature that makes you do a double-take and then immediately post about it. It's sexy, it's unique, and it's perfect for those sunset cocktail moments with friends (or colleagues if you dare).
Built for Entertaining
These villas come with large kitchens and outdoor Viking grills, making them ideal for entertaining. Whether you're hosting your executive team for a private dinner or traveling with family and want to cook a few meals in (or have one of their recommended private chefs cook for you), the setup is perfect. It's rare to find accommodations that actually make self-catering feel luxurious rather than like a compromise.
Perfect for Groups
The multi-bedroom configurations make these villas ideal for families or corporate groups who want communal space but still need privacy. The 'Ilikai Three Bedroom Garden View King, Queen, Queen/Queen offers plenty of space for larger groups, while the 'Ilikai Penthouse Villa takes luxury to another level entirely.
Stunner Event Spaces That Embrace Hawaii’s Natural Beauty
The Andaz Maui doesn’t take away from the most beautiful part of the property - the stunning views of the ocean. It embraces this as a natural backdrop for group events with several different lawns all overlooking the water—which can be transformed with tenting and an array of configurations. But here's the smart part: they also have indoor backup space featuring a Solarium that floods the room with natural light, so you never feel like you've been relegated to a windowless conference dungeon if weather doesn't cooperate.
One of the coolest features? The Studio kitchen in the indoor event space. Use it for catering service, live cooking demonstrations, or even team-building competitions. It's this kind of thoughtful, flexible design that makes planners' lives easier and events more memorable.
The property also features a Luau (The Feast at Mokapu) 3 nights a week. While dining alfresco at the property’s Morimoto restaurant, I was fortunate to get a taste of the performance and it was delightful to be able to hear the music and sneak peaks of the dancers while dining alfresco.
The Attendee Journey, Perfected
What I loved most is how they've thought through the entire attendee journey—not just the meeting itself. From that Ohana Lounge for early arrivals to the seamless flow between event spaces and resort amenities, they understand that corporate travelers are still human beings who want to enjoy their surroundings. Which leads me to something every resort needs and why the Andaz does it better
The Pools: A Multi-Tiered Paradise for every guest
The pool situation here is next-level. Three infinity-edged pools cascade down the front of the property like a waterfall, offering stunning ocean views. The pools offer the same sweeping views as the lobby and you can swim to the infinity edge and feel completely at peace looking off into the horizon.
Below these infinity pools, there is a large kids' wading pool for families, and—bless them—in a completely different wing of the property with no kids in sight (or sound), a serenity pool for adults only, ideally located right near the gym and spa, but with a full lunch/service menu available.
At every pool, you'll find spa water infused with citrus (a refreshing touch), and the lunch service features high-quality, fresh local flavors. That’s right - chicken that actually tastes flavorful and a variety of healthy and indulgent treats. This isn't your typical poolside burger-and-fries situation—the food is genuinely delicious, fresh, and locally sourced with friendly service the cherry on top of the lava flow.
Culinary Excellence
Ka'Ana Kitchen
I loved Ka'Ana Kitchen so much I ate there twice on my visit. The restaurant showcases local Hawaiian fare with skill and creativity, and they even offer a Chef's Table experience for those who want something extra special (I hope to try this next time). The flavors are authentically Hawaiian comfort food inspired but elevated through fresh ingredients, preparation and service with a chic, welcoming atmosphere that overlooks the stunning property and setting sun.
Morimoto Maui
Morimoto, a favorite of mine both in Napa and here, doesn’t have the views of Ka’Ana, but has its own stunning location, bordering the lower level pool and offers its own magic. I had dinner there and was treated to views of the setting sun while the sounds of the resort's Lu'au drifted into the restaurant. It was one of those unplanned perfect moments that make a trip memorable. Morimoto boasts a Japanese menu that delights guests both for lunch and dinner, a nice enhancement to the local flavors of Ka’Ana with an upscale yet approachable environment for groups, families and couples, and a lively bar as well.
The Spa: A Sanctuary
The spa is gorgeous and thoughtfully designed, featuring a full steam room, plunge pool and sauna. The boutique is beautifully curated (dangerous for your wallet, delightful for your senses), and the service menu is impressive. One detail I loved: they offer vitamin C after-sun lotion as a massage option instead of traditional oils—perfect for a day spent soaking up Hawaiian sunshine.
Location, Location, Location
The Andaz Maui is ideally situated with direct beach access and a long jogging/walking path that I took advantage of every morning. Whether you're a runner, walker, or just someone who likes to start the day with ocean views, this path is a gem because it offers not only stunning views of the coast, but a long enough path to create a solid hour-long run without having to detour to the street - an underlooked highlight when wanting to stay fit in Hawaii while enjoying the natural ambiance.
If outdoor running isn’t your jam, the fitness center is state of the art, clean, and airconditioned, with has brand-new equipment (and more peloton bikes than I’ve seen in any resort gym), yoga mats, and weight equipment. The also offer fitness classes and yoga overlooking the water. No excuses here—you can maintain your routine with ease.
The Service
Great service is invisible until you need it, and then it's everything. The Andaz Maui team strikes that perfect balance of being attentive without hovering, knowledgeable without being stuffy, and genuinely warm in a way that feels authentically Hawaiian. Text service is available and anecdotally, I was texted one day to notify me that my “do not disturb sign” was up and inquired if I wanted my room cleaned. There’s nothing like returning to your room only to find it wasn’t serviced to sour the mood, so I appreciated this small attention to guest satisfaction and preference. At one point, something I had delivered to me was hard for me to locate, and the general manager himself hand-delivered it to me since I was told the bellmen were all tied up. A+ for going above and beyond to solve a guest’s request!
And the thoughtfulness doesn’t end there. I was asked in advance what my preferences were for their profile, and as I entered my room, there was a bouquet of pink roses (my favorite color and flower), healthy snacks, champagne and bottled Fiji water. That’s right - all the way down to the water brand I prefer. That, paired with a thoughtful tour of the property and a handwritten welcome note made me feel welcome and comfortable from the very first hour on the property. Thank you Andaz for your hospitality!
The Bottom Line
The Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort gets it right in ways that matter. It’s not obnoxious, it’s understated but chic. It’s fresh and modern while honoring Hawaiian traditions that people expect and love. From the thoughtful amenities (those water bottles! the coffee! that hairdryer!) to the stunning event spaces, world-class dining, and prime location, this property delivers an experience that works for personal travel, corporate groups, and everything in between.
It's the kind of place where the details are so well-executed that you don't have to think about what might go wrong—you can just enjoy what's going right. And in the hotel world, that's exactly what makes a property a true gem.
Would I return? Absolutely. Hope to do so before long and also plan a corporate event here.
Would I recommend it for your next event or personal getaway? Without hesitation. I observed a social event, a corporate event and a wedding while on property and all were having a blast and so well executed, I took photos for my own notes.
Rating: 10/10

GIANNA'S GEM Sexy Property Spotlight: Four Seasons Napa Valley
When Excellence Meets Terroir: Why This Calistoga Sanctuary Commands Its Premium
Four Seasons Napa Valley isn't just another luxury resort—it's a one of a kind gem of a property that captures the complete essence of wine country through the lens of uncompromising Four Seasons excellence. This is where Napa's agricultural soul meets hospitality perfection, and why world class travelers and businesses will pay premium rates without question to experience this majestic resort.
Here's what lights me up about this property: It is truly a sanctuary that will drop your cortisol level as soon as you drive up the vineyard lined driveway. It's not trying to be Napa—it is Napa, distilled into its most refined form. I can say with full honestly that this was the one property I have been to in Napa where I felt 100% present at every moment and savored the tranquility of the natural surroundings, the peace and calm of the resort and genuine care the staff took to ensure every need was tended to. It was a slice of paradise that left me feeling inspired, restored, and even looking into their private residences because I truly would love making this property a home. Read on to get intrigued.
Why Four Seasons Napa Valley Is Worth Every Premium Dollar
While other properties offer wine country accommodations, and let’s face it, at inflated rates, The Four Seasons in Calistoga has created something genuinely rare: a resort that wraps you in Napa like a cozy cashmere, bringing the best to you so you can relax stress free in the best of this magical place. They thought of everything and spared no detail - for instance, its own working winery, Elusa, and tasting room where guests can taste library wines just steps from their casitas. As we checked in, we were also invited to feel free to sample the grapes ourselves off of one of the vines that bordered the resort. What a special and inviting experience. This isn't tourism—it's terroir-driven hospitality that only Four Seasons could execute with such seamless sophistication. And of course, we were welcomed to our room with a bottle of Elusa’s wine paired with chocolate and a charcuterie board - a perfect wine country welcome.
The property commands its rates because it delivers experiences money typically can't buy: direct access to vineyard-to-glass storytelling, an open-air Michelin-starred restaurant, Auro, featuring a pristine glass exhibition kitchen to view the magic making, legendary mountain views, and a Mexican chef to honor the many workers who work hard to bring the harvest to table every year. We were greeted at the restaurant entrance by the sommelier who offered us an amuse bouche and glass of sparkling wine - a simple but important detail. I remember a pain point for me at The French Laundry was having to wait 30 minutes for a glass of wine at my first time dining there - they nailed this pain point by offering a snack and a welcome drink before we were even seated. Watching a full harvest moon rise over the mountains like a show before our eyes made it even more special. No fancy art needed!
What Makes This Property Genuinely Irreplaceable
Bringing Wine Country to Guests Seamlessly:
What sets Four Seasons Napa Valley apart is how masterfully it delivers the entire wine country experience within its borders. Guests can taste estate-grown grapes steps from their accommodations, dine on Michelin-starred cuisine while gazing at the same vineyard and Calistoga mountains that produce their wine, and transition seamlessly from poolside relaxation to farm to table dining in indoor/outdoor country-chic settings without the logistics of having to even board a bus or car the entire time. This isn't just convenience—it's curation at the highest level, where every element of the quintessential Napa experience has been thoughtfully integrated into a single, cohesive destination to save time and pain so attendees can spend more time savoring the experience, relaxing, and mingling with eachother. For busy executives and discerning groups, this means maximum immersion with minimal coordination—the luxury of experiencing wine country's soul without the typical touring complexities.
Event Spaces Built for Community: The two main event spaces beautifully combine outdoor space with indoor space, each with a private lawn for a reception, dinner or wedding ceremony, and indoor space for those late night dance parties or winter months. The Vineyard Barn and lawn is inspired by rustic architecture and overlooks the Cabernet Vineyard and Palisade, while the Calistoga Ballroom and Terrace overlook the lake and fountains and can be access privately and completely distinct from any other hotel guests for the most private and discreet celebrations and events. The outdoor terrace capitalizes on those golden hour moments that make presentations memorable, while indoor venues feature built-in bars that keep networking flowing seamlessly. And…there are a couple of smaller “dining room” vignettes set in the vineyard on property with overhangs - a perfect way to bring your guests to the vineyard without having to drive off property. Plan a memorable company picnic lunch or executive dinner that guests don’t even have to travel off property to reach, yet feel miles away nestled within the cabernet vines.
The Culinary Adventure: Two spectacular restaurants, Truss and Auro, showcase panoramic mountain vistas that serve as natural conversation starters for deal-making. The Michelin Star Auro isn't just about prestige—it's about offering clients and executives dining experiences that match the caliber of the finest restaurants Napa has to offer without having to leave the property. For an intimate, rarefied experience, vineyard picnics can be arranged in the middle of the property vineyard. Truss is a vibrant brasserie-style all-day dining experience with American-Mediterranean flavors and Napa Valley’s finest ingredients. With sweeping vineyard and Palisades Mountain views, guests can sample bold, seasonal dishes, renowned pizzas, handcrafted cocktails. The poolside Mexican restaurant, Campo, offered fresh, local flavors as bright as the lemon-colored decor that lend well to more casual, healthy comfort dining and relaxed relationship building. The open-air poolside restaurant is conveniently located between the Resort Pool and the adults-only infinity pool serving California-inspired favourites that change with the seasons and showcase Napa Valley’s freshest ingredients.
Adult-Focused Luxury: The adults-only infinity pool creates that coveted space where serious conversations happen organically in the pristine infinity pool surrounded by sweeping wine country views and bordered by grapevines, while the main infinity pool accommodates mixed groups without compromising sophistication. There is a bocce court and other activities like s’mores kits available for children, yet plenty of quiet spaces like the spa sanctuary, pristine gym, and adult pool for those who want an adult-only experience. This dual-pool approach is strategic hospitality at its finest providing inclusive and enjoyable options for anyone.
Accommodations That Deliver Impact: These aren't hotel rooms—they're vineyard-view sanctuaries with oversized soaking tubs, Le Labo bath product, and waterfall showers that ensure your VIPs (and you) arrive to meetings genuinely rejuvenated. The casita-style layout provides privacy for sensitive discussions while maintaining the communal energy essential for team cohesion. Every detail is seamless…rooms come with a wine fridge - perfect for storing Napa wine purchases after a tasting, or enjoying a selection of Napa’s local wines, and the rooms are spacious enough with tall ceilings and sweeping views to make you feel as though you are home away from home.
Gianna’s 10/10 Rating
This property succeeds because it understands something fundamental about modern luxury hospitality: today's executives and discerning clients aren't impressed by amenities alone—they're moved by authentic experiences that reflect sophistication without pretense.
The chic, refined minimalist design doesn't compete with Napa's dramatic setting; it enhances it. The spa experience caters to the longevity-focused crowd featuring a small but tranquil outdoor space with a cold plunge and cedar sauna that complement Calistoga’s traditional wellness culture. The spa offers the kind of sophisticated recovery experiences that allow executives to return from retreats genuinely renewed, a key part of my success formula: Stress + Rest = Growth and Success.
As always, the impeccable Four Seasons service anticipates needs without hovering. This is hospitality intelligence that justifies premium investment. A text message to check if I wanted turn down service since my do not disturb sign was on…another text to see if my room was suitable to my needs and if anything else to make my stay special. When I arrived and was interested in moving my reservation to the Michelin Star restaurant, I received a phone call accommodating the request. Every staff member I engaged with was genuinely helpful, offering me tips on where to run in the morning to what to order on the lunch menu. The helpfulness of the Four Seasons brand isn’t lost on me, a former Google Event Leader, where “helpfulness” was synonymous with our brand.
For planners seeking venues that elevate and expand what’s possible with hospitality rather than merely accommodate, Four Seasons Napa Valley delivers something increasingly rare: an authentic sense of place wrapped in operational excellence that makes complex logistics look and appear effortless.
Some experiences are worth the premium. This is one of them.

Gianna's Gems: Sexy Property Spotlight - Four Seasons Westlake Village
Due to overwhelming requests from my instagram travel feed, I'm now dedicating at least one Gianna's Gems feature per month to luxury properties ideally suited for corporate events and bleisure (business-leisure) travel. Properties interested in being featured can inquire with me directly.
I had the pleasure of spending my birthday weekend in the golden sun of Los Angeles as a guest of the Four Seasons Westlake Village. It was a trip I had been looking forward to for months and couldn’t have come at a better time with the whirlwind news of the Windsurf acquisition and much needed R&R. I tend to suffer from disappoint due to high expectations, but in this case, the property exceeded my expectations and I am already manifesting the perfect wellness program to bring to the property so I can partner with them this year!
The Bottom Line: Four Seasons Westlake Village isn't just a hotel—it's a wellness-forward corporate sanctuary that seamlessly blends California's laid-back luxury with serious business capabilities, all while delivering an experience so elevated it feels like a private estate retreat. Imagine a Canyon Ranch meeting the luxury and world-class service and amenities of a Four Seasons and is even family friendly (they have an arcade and soccer field!) and there’s not much left not to love.
A Visionary Legacy Nearly Two Decades in the Making
Since opening in 2006, the Four Seasons Westlake Village and its on-site Center for Health & Wellbeing has been pioneering the integration of luxury hospitality with comprehensive wellness—nearly 20 years before it became a mainstream concept. The property was born from the visionary partnership of David H. Murdock, chairman and owner of Dole Food Company, Inc. geneticist Andrew Conrad, PhD. and Wellpoint, Inc., who recognized that the future of hospitality lay in addressing the whole person, not just providing a place to sleep.
Murdock developed the Dole headquarters campus in Westlake Village and later hired Jack Nicklaus to build the golf course at what would become Sherwood Country Club. The Dole campus would come to include the Four Seasons Westlake Village and wellness and longevity center that became the focus of his endeavors in later years. This wasn't just a hotel development—it was designed as a destination where people would travel specifically for the Center For Health & Wellbeing (Formerly Center for Health and Longevity).
The Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village, California was created in November 2006 with the purpose of providing those in search of a healthier lifestyle all the medical, nutritional and physical resources they needed to promote a longer life span. So smart!
Why This Property Makes Me Swoon
Nearly two decades later, this prescient vision has created something extraordinary: a property that seamlessly blends California's laid-back luxury with serious business capabilities and revolutionary wellness infrastructure. This isn't your typical business hotel—it's a transformative destination where deal-making happens against a backdrop of waterfalls and botanical gardens, originally designed to support guests traveling from around the world for comprehensive health and longevity programs.
What light me up about this property is how effortlessly it marries serious business infrastructure with California's wellness culture. The Grand Ballroom spans an impressive 11,600 square feet, easily accommodating large corporate gatherings, while the property offers a total of 77,533 square feet of meeting space with 11 breakout rooms. But here's where it gets interesting—the resort features such unusual elements as a fully soundproof television broadcast studio, making it perfect for companies needing to broadcast events or conduct high-level virtual presentations (although I heard it’s also perfect for afterparties!).
The Highlights
Event Spaces That Wow: The Grand Ballroom can accommodate up to 1000 guests, making it ideal for major corporate events, product launches, or company celebrations. The real magic happens with the seamless indoor-outdoor flow—guests can gather in the regal Grand Ballroom or choose from breathtaking outdoor spaces including the spectacular Waterfall Lawn and scenic Activity Lawn featuring dramatic views of the Santa Monica Mountains.
Wellness Revolution: The Center for Health & Wellbeing is the first of its kind – a luxury wellbeing destination offering one-on-one consultations, group workshops and daily classes with on-site accredited health experts. For companies prioritizing wellness, or wanting to offer longevity summits for executives, this isn't just amenity—it's a competitive advantage. The $50 million wellness center houses hydrotherapy pools, steam rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities including MRI and CT body scanning equipment and 28 spa treatment rooms.
Culinary Excellence: The Wellness Kitchen offers hands-on cooking experiences with expert wellness chefs and registered dieticians, perfect for team-building events with a healthy twist. Guests can dine at five distinct venues, including Coin & Candor (California brasserie), ONYX (Japanese restaurant), Prosperous Penny (late-night bar), Stir (coffee and pastries) and The Cove (poolside Mediterranean dining). Fun Fact: I canceled my dinner reservation off property on Day 2 of my stay so I could eat at Coin and Candor a second night…the food was that good!
Accommodation Luxury: All 269 guest rooms, including 27 luxurious suites, feature high ceilings, magnificent chandeliers, floor-to-ceiling windows, and finely crafted custom mahogany furniture. These aren't just rooms—they're retreats designed for the discerning business traveler who demands both comfort and sophistication. I stayed in a luxury suite which was beautifully appointed, had more storage space than I could even use, a beautiful parlor that was large enough for me to practice yoga in the morning, and views of the hills. The bed was soft and dreamy and the deep tub relaxing and sumptuous.
Recreation That Impresses: The property features three pools, including the adults-only Serenity Pool, an indoor pool, and the expansive grand pool: The Cove. For active groups, there's a 16,000 square foot fitness center and a comprehensive Center for Health and Wellbeing offering guided hikes, interactive cooking classes and complimentary daily wellness activities.

Comparable Properties & What Makes This Unique
While you might compare it to other luxury California resorts like The Resort at Pelican Hill or Montage Laguna Beach, Four Seasons Westlake Village stands apart with its unique corporate-wellness fusion. Unlike traditional business hotels that treat wellness as an afterthought, this property was designed from the ground up to integrate health and business seamlessly.
The television broadcast studio is a game-changer for companies or studios needing professional-grade production capabilities. Meeting rooms are wired to the television production studio for satellite broadcasts, offering capabilities you simply won't find at typical luxury hotels.
Why I'm Absolutely Obsessed
What makes me passionate about recommending Four Seasons Westlake Village is how it redefines what corporate hospitality can be. This isn't about choosing between business functionality and wellness luxury—here, you get both without compromise. The property understands that today's most successful companies recognize employee wellbeing as a business imperative, not just a nice-to-have.
The location is strategically brilliant—close enough to Los Angeles for convenience, yet far enough away to feel like a true escape. Just 15 minutes from Malibu and 45-60 minutes from LAX and Burbank, it offers easy accessibility while providing the kind of inspiring environment where breakthrough thinking happens naturally.
For companies ready to invest in experiences that truly reflect their values and ambitions, Four Seasons Westlake Village isn't just a venue choice—it's a statement about who you are and where you're headed. I’d be honored to connect anyone with a direct introduction to the incredible team there - just respond “connect me” to this email.

Dolly Parton's return to Vegas is magic!
The country legend just announced "Dolly: Live in Las Vegas" - a six-show residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace this December, and tickets sold out in just 90 minutes. This marks her first extended Vegas run in over 30 years and her return to regular performing since her "Pure & Simple" tour wrapped up in 2016 - nearly a decade ago.
Still going strong at age 79, Dolly remains one of music's most iconic figures with an estimated 100 million album sales, a successful film career, and her very own theme park Dollywood. She's one of an elite group of individuals to receive at least one nomination from all four major annual American entertainment award organizations; Emmy, GRAMMY, Oscar, and Tony. From "Jolene" to "9 to 5" to "I Will Always Love You," her catalog of hits spans generations and genres, making her truly one of America's most enduring entertainers.
And what’s even more magic? The chance to book her for a private corporate event. EVA, a company I advise, and one of my favorite platforms for booking entertainment has the exclusive ability to book Dolly for private corporate events. If your brand is aligned with Dolly and you’d like a connect, message me by responding directly to this email.

Gianna’s Gem - Exceptional Executive Briefing Centers
Event planning at major conferences and trade shows presents unique challenges and opportunities, especially when it comes to creating Executive Briefing Centers (EBCs) that make an impact. These dedicated spaces serve as your company's home base during third-party events, offering a controlled environment for high-value customer meetings away from the noise and chaos of the main show floor. But given how important and senior the audience is for EBC’s, it’s critical to nail the experience or risk losing these important customers.
Why Executive Briefing Centers Matter
EBCs at third-party events provide the perfect setting for:
Conducting private demonstrations to senior leaders both technical and non-technical
Hosting executive-level conversations
Showcasing products that aren't ready for public display including embargoed press demos and analyst briefings
Building deeper relationships with key accounts and industry influencers
Planning Your Executive Briefing Center: The Do's
Do: Start Planning Early
Begin your EBC planning at least 4-6 months before the event. The best locations near popular conference venues book quickly, and you'll need time to design, build, and perfect your experience.
Do: Choose the Right Location
Proximity to the main event is critical. Ideally, your EBC should be within walking distance of the conference venue and keynote (where you should secure front row VIP seats for these folks too). If that's not possible, arrange convenient (high end) transportation for attendees. A luxury hotel or unique venue within 5-10 minutes of the main event creates the right balance of convenience and exclusivity.
Gianna’s Gem: Cars often provide a unique space for meaningful conversations, with studies showing that many people feel comfortable sharing personal thoughts and feelings during car rides due to fewer distractions and the unique dynamics of being in a confined space. Book private luxury cars or Waymos from your EBC to your conference center for EBC attendees and it’s a win win for your sales team as well as the attendee.
Do: Create a Cohesive Experience
Your EBC should feel like a natural extension of your brand while providing a more intimate and white glove experience than your main booth or event. Consider:
Consistent design language across all touchpoints
Comfortable seating arrangements conducive to conversation (and don’t forget all types of chargers!) PRO TIP: Offer to take an Exec’s phone at a cell-cierge at the entrance to charge up their phone during the meeting. They get their charge and you get their undivided attention!
Technology that enhances rather than dominates the space
Do: Staff Appropriately
Your EBC team should include:
Executives from your company who can speak authoritatively
Subject matter experts for technical discussions and demos
Appropriately dressed and polished hosts/hostesses who manage check-ins and communication and rescheduling
Support staff to handle logistics, food/beverage and unexpected issues such as wifi going down.
Do: Provide Exceptional Hospitality
Remember that comfort creates the foundation for productive conversations:
Offer premium food and beverages throughout the day, ideally things that are hard to come by at the convention like good espresso drinks and fresh, healthy snacks and drinks. PRO TIP: I love asking customers for their coffee drink order in advance which not only shows next level service, but can also de-risk no-shows when people know they’re going to get their favorite beverage sans line!
Consider dietary restrictions and preferences and have menus on hand for custom requests (always say yes!)
Ensure reliable high-speed internet and back up mi-fis. There’s nothing worse than losing internet in the middle of an Exec demo!
Create spaces of luxury within your center if possible, perhaps with massage chairs, or scented candles and calm music to create a sense of luxury and tranquility.
Avoiding Common Pitfalls: The Don'ts
Don't: Overbook Your Schedule
Quality trumps quantity. Leave buffer time between meetings to:
Allow for meetings that run long
Give your team breaks to recharge, clean up the space, and prep for the next meeting (tired, hurried team members don’t present well). Pro tip: Have your Sales leaders take a 1 minute “breathing break” between meetings without phones to do a quick reset before the next client.
Accommodate spontaneous high-value meetings with a second conference room you have on hold for these last minute press or Exec meetings that arise.
Prepare properly for each conversation by having each Exec review account notes, and asking each attendee what they want to discuss in advance to properly tailor each presentation accordingly.
Don't: Replicate Your Trade Show Booth
Your EBC should offer something different:
Avoid canned demos or flashy presentations - this is about connecting personally and more intimately.
Create spaces for genuine conversation that are quiet and comfortable.
Focus on relationship-building over product pitches - better to connect with a customer and build rapport rather than rub them the wrong way. There’s always opportunity for a follow up conversation later.
Provide relief from the sensory overload of the main event
Don't: Neglect the Details
Small touches make a big difference:
Ensure proper temperature control and ventilation - I like to also order pashminas an blankets to have on hand for female Execs who are often overlooked.
Check for ambient noise issues before meetings take place. Pro Tip: Take it a step further and ensure there’s no construction or cleaning happening during your meeting time.
Provide phone charging stations and connectivity options.
Pro Tip: I love having a team member serve as an onsite “concierge” to help attendees with anything they might need and also to have items they may need on hand to be the “hero”. These can be basic things like aspirin, toothbrush, charger (bonus if you let them take it), etc.
Have backup plans for technical difficulties (back up computers, hot-spots, printed presos, downloaded presos)
Don't: Miss Follow-Up Opportunities
The EBC experience doesn't end when guests leave:
Capture key discussion points for personalized follow-up. Pro tip: Assign one person as the notetaker in the room, or use an AI notetaking tool so nothing is missed.
Send thank-you notes within 24 hours
Share any promised materials promptly
Use insights gained to inform future interactions
Real-World Success Stories
The Software Company That Created FOMO
A leading enterprise software company took over a boutique hotel's restaurant near their industry's largest conference. They transformed the space into themed "solution rooms" addressing different business challenges. By invitation only, customers moved through a journey culminating in a private dining experience with executives. The exclusivity created such buzz that they had to extend hours to accommodate additional requests.
The House "Touch and Feel" Experience
When Google started launching a lot more hardware products, we converted a venue into a “Google House” where press and Executives could walk through each room and experience our devices in real-life vignettes (like Google Home, Google nest, Google watch, etc). We encouraged them to share on social as they experienced the “home” and to even rest, eat, relax for as long as they wanted to in the comfy living spaces! Not only was this engaging and experiential, at the end of the tour, we sat down with attendees 1:1 and gave them a gifting selection of their choice, walked them through the set up and answered any other questions they had.
When designed thoughtfully, Executive Briefing Centers create valuable touchpoints with your most important customers and prospects. By providing a respite from the main event while maintaining proximity and convenience, you create the perfect environment for meaningful connections that drive business forward.

Read: Shiftby Ethan Cross. I’ve found myself sharing this book recco to several people this week and highly recommend it to you Gianna’s Gems readers! Shift is a science-based guide that addresses the timeless question of how to manage your emotional life using tools you already possess—Whether it’s anxiety and rage when we’re stuck in traffic, or devastation after a painful break-up, our lives are filled with situations that send us spiraling. But as difficult as our emotions can be, they are also a superpower. Far from being “good” or “bad,” emotions are information. When they’re activated in the right ways and at the right time, they function like an immune system, alerting us to our surroundings, telling us how to react to a situation, and helping us make the right choices. How do we make our emotions work for us rather than against us? In Shift, acclaimed psychologist Dr. Ethan Kross dispels common myths—for instance, that avoidance is always toxic or that we should always strive to live in the moment—and provides a new framework for shifting our emotions so they don’t take over our lives. Decoding Luxury Hotels
Hi there,
Just like an event can be good, great, excellent, or exceptional, the same is true for hotels and the experience they provide for travelers and groups visiting them. This week we’re diving deep into the world of luxury hospitality…exploring what truly sets apart the tiers of luxury hotels and why those famous star ratings might not tell the whole story.
The Deceptive Nature of Star Ratings
Let’s face it - star ratings can be misleading. A five-star hotel in a secondary market might barely qualify as a four-star property in Paris or New York. Moreover, rating systems vary by country and certifying body. Some properties self-rate, while others undergo rigorous third-party evaluations. The key? Look beyond the stars.
The Good: Foundation of Luxury
Good luxury hotels, like good events deliver on expectations and nail the basics such as:
Immaculate cleanliness that extends beyond guest rooms to every corner
Professional staff who are well-groomed and courteous
Quality bedding with high thread-count linens
Reliable room service with decent presentation
Functioning amenities and basic concierge services
However, they often miss subtle details that keeps them from reaching higher levels of excellence. You might notice slight inconsistencies in service, generic toiletries, or standard restaurant offerings. These hotels are comfortable but don't create memorable moments and the same is true for basic well-done events. They might achieve the expectations, but they’re not going to be the event that creates catharsis and metamorphosis in an attendee or drives them to share about this event for years to come.
Hotels in this category include: Most Westin properties, Renaissance Hotels, Sofitel properties in secondary markets, Certain Kimpton Hotels, InterContinental Hotels in smaller markets
Standout Example: The Westin Palace Madrid - reliable luxury with good service, though not quite reaching the heights of Spain's most exclusive properties
Good Luxury Hotels Are Perfect For:
Business travel where comfort and reliability matter more than exceptional experiences
Large corporate conferences where consistent service matters more than customization
Short city breaks where the hotel serves primarily as a comfortable base
Events with strict budgets that still require an upscale venue
Training sessions where the focus is on content not experience
Industry conventions where adequate space matters more than luxury touches
The Great: Elevation Through Detail and Personalization
Great luxury hotels, like great events, go the extra mile and deliver qualities like:
Anticipatory service that addresses needs before they're voiced
Personalized touches like welcome amenities based on guest preferences
Curated partnerships with local artisans and experiences
Signature scents and custom-branded luxury toiletries
Staff who remember returning guests and their preferences
Sophisticated F&B programs with talented culinary teams
These properties understand luxury is in the details, but might still struggle with consistency across all touch points. Think: Most Four Seasons in secondary markets, Park Hyatt properties in Asia, Waldorf Astoria properties in the Americas, Rosewood properties in secondary markets, Many Edition Hotels
Standout Example: The Shangri-La Singapore - consistently excellent service with great attention to detail, while maintaining approachability
Great Luxury Hotels are best for:
Intimate corporate retreats requiring personalized attention
Smaller events/weddings (50-150 guests) seeking sophistication without extravagance
Family celebrations where attention to detail enhances the experience
Incentive travel programs for mid-sized groups
Product launches requiring elegant settings but not ultra-luxury
Multi-day conferences needing varied dining and entertainment options
The Excellent: Mastery of Experience
Excellent luxury hotels transcend traditional hospitality and just like great events, you know one when you experience it due to qualities like:
Flawless service choreography where every department works in perfect harmony
Innovative technology that enhances rather than complicates the stay
Exceptional concierge teams with impossible-to-get reservations at their fingertips
Unique programming that creates Instagram-worthy moments
Sublime dining experiences (Michelin star) that draw locals and travelers alike
Thoughtful design that tells a cohesive story throughout the property
The excellent category is where true luxury begins to shine. Think: Most Aman Resorts, Peninsula Hong Kong, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, Ritz Carlton Paris, Four Seasons Paris, The Connaught London
Standout Example: The Peninsula Beverly Hills - masterful service execution with innovative programming and exceptional attention to detail
Excellent hotels are ideal for events like:
High-profile corporate board meetings
Luxury brand showcases and fashion events
Celebrity or VIP hosting
Larger weddings (150-300 guests) demanding seamless execution
International diplomatic gatherings
Premium incentive travel programs
The Exceptional: Beyond Hospitality to Truly Transformative
Exceptional luxury hotels exist in a realm of their own and are the true 1% of hospitality. Like life-changing events, one is lucky to have an opportunity to experience one, and it will often leave an impression that goes beyond memorable to transformative and inspirational:
Transformative experiences that change how guests view hospitality
Staff who operate like luxury brand ambassadors rather than traditional hotel employees
Partnerships with ultra-luxury brands that feel organic rather than commercial
Architecture, art collections and interior design that become destinations themselves
Culinary programs helmed by renowned chefs pushing creative boundaries and even include gourmet offerings for pets and children
Services that seem magical in their execution and timing
Cultural programming that connects guests with exclusive local experiences
These properties don't just exceed expectations—they redefine them. Think: Aman Tokyo, Four Seasons Florence, Laucala Private Island, Fiji, Royal Mansour Marrakech, Burj Al Arab Dubai, Raffles Singapore
Standout Example: Cheval Blanc Randheli Maldives - redefining luxury through unprecedented attention to detail, exceptional design, and transformative experiences
One might seek out a truly exceptional hotel for:
Royal and diplomatic state visits
Ultra-luxury brand global launches
Celebrity weddings requiring absolute privacy and security
International summit meetings
Exclusive gatherings of global leaders
Once-in-a-lifetime celebration events
Ultra-high-net-worth individual family gatherings and celebrations
Events requiring helicopter access or extreme security measures
The key is matching the hotel tier to both your purpose and your audience's expectations. Sometimes, an exceptional hotel might actually be too formal for a casual corporate retreat, while a great hotel might provide the perfect balance of luxury and approachability for your internal event while sending the right level of optics on corporate governance.
How to Identify True Luxury
Event planners: when looking for the right level of luxury, go beyond the obvious indicators of reputation and price point, and in an RFP, look for:
Staff tenure and training programs
The sophistication of their standard operating procedures
How they handle special requests and customization
The quality and exclusivity of their partnerships
Their approach to sustainability and social responsibility
The depth and breadth of their concierge services
Their ability to create authentic local connections
Responsiveness and communication
Event Planning at Luxury Properties: When Things Go Wrong
As an event planner, even the most exceptional properties can have off days. Here's how to handle suboptimal experiences:
Prevention:
Document everything in writing, including verbal agreements
Have detailed BEOs (Banquet Event Orders) signed off by all parties
Conduct thorough site inspections, including back-of-house areas and advance VIP rooms looking in all drawers, making sure all outlets work, etc.
Meet key team members who will execute your event and get their direct mobile number
Request contingency plans for weather, staffing, and other variables
When Issues Arise:
Document Everything: Take photos, save emails, and keep detailed notes
Maintain Professionalism: Even in frustrating moments, keeping calm helps resolve issues faster
Escalate Appropriately: Know the chain of command and when to move up it
Focus on Solutions: Present concrete ways to address problems rather than just highlighting issues
Leverage Relationships: Your rapport with hotel management can often expedite solutions
After the Event:
Schedule a detailed debrief with the hotel team
Request specific compensation or future considerations if warranted
Document lessons learned for future events
Maintain professional relationships despite challenges
Consider whether the issues reflect a one-time situation or systemic problems
True luxury isn't about marble lobbies or designer uniforms—it's about creating moments that transform ordinary stays into extraordinary memories. The best properties understand that luxury is both an art and a science, requiring constant innovation while never losing sight of timeless hospitality principles.

Because it’s Valentine’s Day month…Read On All My Single Guys and Gals!
The Bevy: I recently returned from a 50th birthday celebration at The Edition Riviera Maya hosted by the founder of The Bevy. The Riviera Maya was a gorgeous destination, just over a year old with stunning architecture, one of the most amazing suites I’ve ever stayed in, and luxurious beach and five star dining. More than the venue, I loved catching up with the host and learning more about her wildly successful (95% success rate) bespoke matchmaking company, The Bevy, which was just featured in Goop (and formerly in other small publications like Forbes, Vogue, The Wall Street Journal, etc). It’s no coincidence that The Bevy is busy…with COVID behind us, and people sick of swiping apps, I’ve been approached by at least a dozen highly eligible singles this past year asking me if I know of anyone exceptional to match them with. Rather than do the matchmaking myself, I now have a reliable partner to help. Email me if you’d like an intro and I’m happy to connect you directly so you can manifest your dream relationship because life’s too short to be lonely.
XX,
Gianna
