Hi friends,
Lately I’ve been thinking about how much AI has changed the way we learn and connect. Not long ago we were all hunting for information. Now we’re swimming in it, and AI connects the dots for us in seconds. That used to be the gift of the people we trusted most: the mentor, the expert, the friend who shared lived experience candidly and authentically. They helped us make sense of things in a way that felt personal and meaningful.
We’ve gone from a world of information scarcity to one of information abundance. AI now connects the dots for us. That used to be the job of experts: synthesizing, making sense of and curating information so it was relevant, personal and contextual.
I’ll never forget sitting at a TED conference while AI scientist Kai-Fu Lee shared his list of jobs that are “AI-proof.” CEO and event planner were both on it. Lucky me, as the CEO of an event consulting business! I think it’s because nothing replaces human connection: listening, charisma, and passing along wisdom we earned through experience.
But I’ve noticed something.
Gianna’s Gem: AI is wearing away the wisdom we gain from the process, because it takes us straight from input to result.
Struggling, iterating and discovering things along the way is where we actually learn. Whether it’s my clients or my son, I love helping people enjoy and improve the process of life, not just chase the end goal. That’s how we live lives that matter and have the most impact right now.
I just wrapped a month of conferences, including The Information’s WTF and Summit Series Napa. I always ask other attendees why they came. Surprisingly, it’s rarely about the content. It’s about being inspired and connecting with other people. No algorithm can deliver that for you.

I’m honored to be featured in neuroscientist Paul Zak’s Immersion newsletter last week. Our talked ranged from why delight is often the first thing events cut but often a strategic move, how to stop guessing what attendees value and use science to measure it, what to outsource to ai vs keep human-first, and why your brain remembers certa
